the main elements of your hairstyle
HaircutOne of my favourite exercises to do when seeing a client is having them show me what they like by looking in books and magazines. Pinterest has become a great place to research new hairstyles as well. (Old photographs help too!)
We look at not only what they are wearing currently, but what looks attract their eye. Most of the time, we will be attracted to a look that does suit us. After we find a few ideas, I translate that idea into a shape that does suit that person's hair type, length, texture and overall design. HOT TIP! When looking through a magazine or hair book for a new look, don't look at the face of the model!! Cover up the face, and check the look again. Do you still like it? Style elements are the most important thing when searching out a new shape for your hair. Style elements to consider are: Length of hair Texture - curly, wavy, combo, straight, etc. Fine & thin, medium or thick and heavy? Suitability Wearability Daily routine Upkeep Product requirements Need a hair makeover? Consultations are always complimentary. |
Hair Styling I love hearing when a client tells me they don't know how to do their hair. Often I hear this: "I never know what looks good on me."
I don't think that is always true. We are the most practised at staring at our face in the mirror. We know where we like height and where our cowlicks are. At the very least, we have the most experience combing and finger styling our own hair. We know what the texture feels like, and how it lays. The important thing is to work with your stylist to gain a few ideas of how you can wear what you have. Choosing a new hairstyle can require a different type of styling from the way you already do your hair. If you are unable to reproduce it without knowing how to change up your current routine, it can be disappointing. Questions the consider: Do you regularly blowdry your hair? What tools do you use? For example brushes, combs, fingers. What is your lifestyle? Daily routine is important! How often do you shampoo your hair? Sometimes you will need to find an option for second-day hair. Styling sessions are available. More information on individual style sessions will be posted soon! |
